This issue's opinion

For very obvious reasons, this months issue will focus on the Cowboy Artists and Photographers of America (CAPA) Art Show & Sale, which will be at the Rio All Suites Hotel Casino in Las Vegas, NV, December 9-11. You will find some images from our exhibiting CAPA members, along with links to their biographical information and web sites.

All visitors to the show, when they sign our guest sheets, will receive a free screen saver featuring work from the CAPA Show's artists. This screen saver retails for $14.95, and will be one all cowboy art collectors will enjoy.

Show visitors will also be entertained by the country bluegrasss music of Mark Holt, who will also have his newest CD at the show for sale.

The paintings, drawings, sculptures, and photography exhibited at the show fit will be priced to fit weveryone's price range. Collectors of cowboy art will find many works which will not only provide viewing pleasure, but which will, in time, grow in value.

Once in a while an interesting opportunity arises, breaking the regular work routine. A few days ago, I was invited to take part in the filming of a movie for television which included a segment on a ranch rodeo. In the past some of these television movie opportunities ended up on the proverbial cutting room floor - due to time restrictions, of course. What I can say is that theone hour producttion, which I undestand will be shown in December or January, (I'll let our readers know when and on what channel when I find out), and it looks like it will be a very good representation of what ranching and ranch rodeo is all about.

Everything and everybody waits between scenes - at left, some of the movies' stars, and on the right, waiting to shoot more action

New CAPA Member Represents Famous Sculpting Family

Wendell Borglum, nephew of Gutzon & Solon Borglum, the world reknown family of sculptors of Mt. Rushmore and Stone Mountain, clearly inherited the gift of story telling scultping. Borglum spent his youth in the prairies of Western Nebraska. In the years before World War I the country was still part of the old West. Borglum remembered Indians by the hundreds living in tepees at Fort Robinson, 25 miles away. He remembered ranchers' teams and saddle horses filling the hitching lot on Saturdays in his home town of Harison. His interest in the West has deep roots and many visits to those former scenes kept that interest alive. These works have been assembled by Borglum's grandson, CAPA member Grant Fawcett. Borglum's work can be seen here and at the Sun Foundry in Burbank, CA. Grant Fawcett will also be exhibiting his grandfather's work at the CAPA Show in December.

  • Jennie Porter, California Cowgirl and Artist, is a new Member of CAPA

Jennie Porter's eyes and ears filled with the sights and sounds of the west from birth, so it’s no wonder she paints a cowgirl’s dreams. Growing up on horseback and showing horses since the age of four, Jennie’s love of the horse and everything cowboy just comes, well, naturally. Riding cutting horses by age ten prepared her for High School Rodeo where she competed in several events and was a top competitor in California. While she still rides every week, competition has been put on hold as she pursues an education in Fine Arts and Graphic Design. Jennie’s favorite medium is oil painting and only original works are offered at this time> Jennie is another of CAPA's artists exhibiting at the Cowboy Artists and Photographers of America Art Show and Sale in December.
