This issue's opinion
I see there's another insidious blow against the West and the life of the cowboy and westerner. Television ads proclaim that
rodeo is an "extreme" sport. I guess ranching is an "extreme" occupation - or maybe there's just no correlation anymore between rodeo
and western and ranch life. To really make it extreme, producers of those shows should update their scripts and include
events such as "helicopter round-up". Maybe I'm just gettin' too old, but these days I wonder how long it'll take for people to only know about the cowboy and western lifestyle
from movies, books, and art.
And speaking of art - I'd like to hear from all of you what kind of cowboy art you like best, and the kind of cowboy art you would buy if you had the chance. Now I'm not trying to sell you anything - it's only
an informal survey of a targeted demographic which can help us understand the interests of all of you great folks out there who visit cowboyartshow.com and capausa.org. If we get any kind of usable information, the results
will be published here.
Real cowboy stories at cowboyartshow.com
Read cowboyartshow.com's featured cowboy writer, Bob Kinford's cowboy stories are listed on the story
directory page. He's been sending us a couple of stories a minth, and if you're interested in ranching and the cowboy life, you'll enjoy these tales.
"The Teams" Last month we featured on of Dorothy Gauvin's paintings, and although we don't usually repeat work in backto back issues, this painting is shown since it is of some interest. Writes Dorothy,"You may be interested to know the models for "Teams" are members of one of the last few working teams of Clydesdales in our country. I travelled to Victoria - our southern-most mainland State - and spent two days in photographing them for the painting. In it, the team is being harnessed to a (replica) tabletop wool wagon. Most of our heavy horse teams are "clumpers" - ie a Clydesdale over a stock mare - and Percherons for display and competition."
