This Issue's Opinion
There's a Lot Going On...
We have a whole kettle of fish in this issue. The year is just about halfway through its cycle, the weather down here in Las Vegas is that nice triple figure temperature, and it feels like vacation everyday, so who wants to think - or work - too much (and what's going to happen over the next two months, when we hit those 115-120 days.. guess I'll just have to site around the pool with a brew or two and enjoy these lazy times).

But, life is funny - just when you think thee's gonna be nothing doin' - bam, the work hits you like a sack of mud!

So without further ado, let's see what's happening.

But first, this note: I've written about fraud and theft a number of times in these pages, and most of the time the crime is easy to commit because of the victim's greed. I won't say that those taken in by fraudsters are naive, although some may have inexcusably been in these days of mass information availability. A message received from Jack White presents another form of fraud perpetuated upon artists. Caveat Vendo! Joe Chernicoff, CPA Exec. Director

Late 19th Century Native American Photos Now Found
[Note: I recently won a print in a contest sponsored by American Fine Art. The print (see below) is one of a limited series of gicleé prints made from the original glass plates - which are now in the Smithsonian. The print is in a patina and carries the original copyright information"]

Background Information
Dean Cameron writes "Rose & Hopkins studio was closed in 1927 and the glass plates were put into storage. Upon later inspection, it was discovered that the images were deteriorating on the glass plates. Therefore, a negative reproduction of these 1899 to 1900 studio portraits was made of the plates in the early 1930's. It is from those original negatives that this limited edition of images were meticulously scanned @300 dpi and the Giclee Fine Art Prints are made. We have left the imperfections & aging of the negatives for an authentic presentation. Certificates of Authenticity will be issued & registered with each print to insure the collectors of the one time offering & printing. Editions of only 350 will be printed. The current owners of the negatives are pleased to offer these pages of history with the hope that you enjoy them as much as we do."

Print Specifications: Giclee on 100 % Photo Rag paper by Huhnemuhle (Germany). Archival greater than 200 years. Prints are 12"X15" (image size) $210.00 each. Prints are also available in 8X10-$175.00 and 16X20-$285.00 Other sizes available on request.

Sure was in good company. Nice varied group of work they had. 3 pieces were at the Western States Horse Expo this past weekend and I have entries into the Draft Horse Classic...I got the blue, the red and the yellow ribbons!" - Good show!
