This Issue's Opinion What's Happening... It's been a few months since I posted the last issue of the newsletter, and for both good and bad reasons. The "bad" reason is I had to take some time of, and it felt so good, I extended the R&R time. The "good" reason is that , after playing around with an increasingly annoying hep arthritis problem - bad enough to make getting up in the saddle a non-event, I found a great surgeon here in Las Vegas who did a complete hip replacement (hip arthroplasty. It's been about ten weeks now, and the muscle strengthening continues. As the doctor said, you can shortly get back in the saddle, just don't fall off! Ha!... Anyhow, it's a pleasure to feel no pain and get a good night's sleep for a change. Anyhow, I've been busy with my "day job" for the past few weeks, and now have to time to devote to cowboyartshow.com, et al. Congratulations are due to Juliet Harrison and Kevin Clarke, co-winners of the 2006 online cowboy art competition.Juliet's work is here, and Kevin's winning work is shown here. We've been receiving some inquiries from artists interested in the next event - and I invite everyone interested in participating to drop me an e-mail letting me know that you have art to enter. Your name will be saved in the 2007 entry database, and when - and if - the competition is scheduled, you will be provided with advance notification of same. Security continues to be a concern for art collectors as well as artists. Although the two groups have some different interests (theft of the actual product v. theft of product concept (counterfeiting, et al. As in our daily lives, attention must be given to the security issue. In line with my work as a security consultant, and writer on security subjects, I expect to have a new audio book available sometime around the beginning of the year, with a chapter dedicated to art security. This new bookwill be available in its complete form, or chapters of interest can be purchased separately. For full information on special pre-publication pricing, and on the audio book itself, contact me at my e-mail address, or call me at 702-655-3010. And speaking of security, here's an important warning for you: Madrid, November 17, 2006 - PandaLabs has detected mass email messages that offer jobs at a supposed NGO committed to helping underprivileged children. However, it is actually a stratagem to find "mules", that is, people to launder stolen money. (read more...) Joe Chernicoff, CPA Exec. Director
