Julie Woods says that since her first painting, she has always preferred to focus on those subjects she understands, or feels passionate about. Each and every one of the different subjects she has worked with over the years has helped to shape her life and career in a personal and unique way. "Born and raised in Colorado, I started drawing animals at a young age. I'm a self-taught artist to which my families have always told me 'it's a God given talent'" "Early in my career I painted in acrylics, pen and ink, and scratchboard. The medium I work with now is pastels". "I feel truly humbled viewing and photographing these powerful animals in their natural environment, the desert is an oasis of color brimming with an abundance of wild life and serenity. |
I am happy to say that I have received many awards along the way. I have also done artwork for Ducks Unlimited, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Quail Unlimited, Children's Medical Research, Thoroughbred Association, and Rocky Mountain Quarter Horse Association. I accept commissions and have artwork in the Running Creek Gallery in Elizabeth, CO, and also in the Painted Pony Gallery in Cheyenne, WY. My husband Jeff, son Rick, and daughter Nikki live on a cattle ranch near Elizabeth, Colorado. In the winter and spring we harness two teams of Belgian horses to do every day chores. In the summer we take those Draft Horses to horse pulls and competitions. In the fall, I'm also an assistant teacher in a pre-school program at Singing Hills Elementary. "
